LEFT AND RIGHT TURNS NO PROBLEM FOR MULLINS AT NEW JERSEY

Willie Mullins has experienced success so far in 2016, with his No. 34 Ford. This weekend, he will look to continue this on Saturday in the Twilight 150 presented by Unique Pretzels at the New Jersey Motorsports Park.

Mullins may not appear to be a “Road Course Ringer” from his two superspeedway starts, but most of his racing career has been spent making left and right turns.

“I’m really excited to get back to what I love, road racing” say’s Mullins. “I bought the ARCA Ilmor 396 for this race, to have the best package I could on the track. Daytona and Talladega were great, but this is the race I have always focused on”

While racing in the ARCA Racing Series, he has competed at the schedule’s lone road course, making four starts from 2008 to 2012. His best finish in in that period was 15th, coming in 2012.

Outside of ARCA competition, the Virginia native competes in the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) in the V-8 Stock Car division.

In his first year as a member of SCCA, he won Rookie of the Year honors, in addition to being named the V8 Grand National Champion, all coming in 2006.

From there, he tore through the ranks of road course racing, recording victories at some of the most prestigious racing venues in North America, which include Sebring, Watkins Glen, Daytona, Road Atlanta, and the Virginia International Raceway.

In addition to his impressive racing resume, he also lays claim to the 2014 MARRS SPO Championship, after finishing as the division’s runner-up the previous season.

As for this season, Mullins has competed on the series’ two superspeedways, the Daytona International Speedway, and the Talladega Superspeedway.

At Daytona, he ran upfront throughout the entire race, as he avoided several accidents to claim a career-best 8th place finish.

Talladega was much of the same story, as Mullins qualified 8th and ran upfront throughout the race. He was in position for another Top-10 finish, until a late race accident and weather slated him with an 17th place finish.

Saturday’s race will also mark Mullins Racing’s third time this season they have shared Darrell and Sandy Basham’s No. 34 entry.

The last race for the No. 34 was last weekend at the Toledo Speedway. Driver Mike Basham and his family led team battled throughout the 200-lap race, coming away with a 19th place finish.
